MSD MC-3 Digital Ignition
MSD MC-3 Ignition
With the help of new and better technology, SD Ignition proves that a great product can become even greater. MSD introduces the new smaller, lighter and more effiecent MSD MC-3 Digital Motorcycle Ignition.

The MC-3 Ignition, PN 4223, is designed as a direct replacement for the MSD MC-2 Motorcycle Ignition. The new MC-3 Ignition uses a high speed RISC microprocessor to control the Multi-Spark, Two Step Rev Limiter, and monitoring of its electronic circuits. The MSD MC-3's Multispark function is precisely controlled to provide a full 40 degrees of spark output even under rapid acceleration.
The unit is also battery compensated to ensure full spark output with input voltages as low as 6.5 volts and as high as 24 volts. Recommended operating range is 11-18 volts DC. This feature is very important on high compression engines where the voltage can drop to as low as 8 volts during start-up. The MSD MC-3 ensures complete combustion under all conditions by Multi-Sparking through 6000 rpm. This unique feature stops plug fouling that is so common on race engines with poor fuel/air atomization at low speed. The MSD Digital Ignition uses a special high frequency flyback converter that is much smaller, runs cooler and draws only 4.3 amps at 10000 rpm. This makes the MC-3 one of the most efficient ignitions on the market today.

Built In Two Step
The PN 4223 has built-in reverse polarity protection for those that tend to hook the battery cables up backwards. Trigger inputs to the MSD can be either points or MSD style trigger pickups. The input circuit is protected against noise through a highly sophisticated debounce section that can't be false triggered. A simple one wire hookup for all shift interupt functions makes installation easy.

Incorporated into the MC-3 is the Two Step Rev Limiter. This special rev limiter allows a low rpm limit to be set for consistant launches off the start line and also a high rpm limit for protecting the engine from over-rev damage.

Timing Monitor
Timing Monitor
For easy timing setup, a bright LED is mounted on the end if the case. This LED indicates when the battery voltage goes low by flashing the LED 2 times per second. This alerts the driver to a low voltage condition that could affect performance during a pass. The LED can also tell the engine tuner when the ignition is firing for quick and easy timing setup.

With its new digital electronic circuits, the MC-3 delivers 105-115 millijoules of spark energy directly to the plugs. The ignitions small easy to mount case was designed specifically for those confined areas on motorcycles. All electronic circuitry on the MC-3 is fully potted with Restech polyurathane to prevent moisture, vibration and heat from damaging the ignition. The MC-3's overall size is 35% less then the MC-2 resulting in a great savings in weight.

MSD Multi Stage Retard

The high speed retard will retard the ignition timing any pre set amount using chips. The unit can be activated with a toggle switch, timer or pressure switch. The multi step retard can retard timing four seperate times. They are excellent for use with nitrous oxide or turbo applications.

MSD Retard Module & Retard Chips

MSD Retard Module Selectors and Retard Chips give you a full selection of retard values to choose from.  These modules plug into the MSD Multi Step Retard Unit.

MSD Coils

The MSD Motorcycle Coils are designed for use where the ultimate output is needed from the MC-1 ignition. It has less resistance and a high turns ratio to match the full capability of this ignition. Deep widely spaced high tension terminals use standard spark plug wires. These coils are larger than most factory coils so more space is necessary to mount them.

MSD Pickups

MSD Trigger Pickups

MSD Trigger Pickups are molded out of two part epoxy to resist high temperature and vibration.  These trigger pickups utilize electronic circuitry to eliminate excessive retard common in most aftermarket pickups.

MSD Shift Light

The MSD Shift Light has the RPM sensing circuit built right into it. The shift point is set by plugging a MSD RPM Chip directly into the front of the light. It is totally self contained and has a simple three wire hook up. It is compatible with stock ignitions as well as Dyna and MSD ignitions.

MSD RPM Switch

MSD RPM Switch

The RPM Switch allows you to perform a variety of functions, from turning on a shift light or nitrous solenoids to activating a high speed retard. The RPM is easily adjusted with RPM Chips. The RPM Switch will supply a 12 volt power or a ground when the set RPM is reached. You must use 1/2 RPM chips without a MSD MC-1 ignition.

MSD RPM Chips

Each RPM Chip Kit provides 5 chips within a 1000 RPM range. Works with MSD MC-1, Two Step Module, Launchmasters, RPM Activated Switch, Electronic Throttle Stops, Shift Lights, and Auto Shifts.

MSD Plug Wires

MSD Plug Wire Sets

MSD 8mm Heli-Core Wires are the finest wires available. Their unique construction makes them perfect for all race bikes. The secret is the helically wound, solid montel conductor which offers low resistance for maximum voltage carrying capabilities. This also creates a radio frequency "choke". This "choke" prevents RF noise from interfering with other onboard electronics like delay boxes, timers, and computers.

MSD Three Step

The MSD Three Step allows the user to switch between multiple RPM Chips or Retard Modules.
